Man arrested over torturing elderly mother in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon Correspondent: Police arrested a man who tortured his nonagenarian mother for seeking food from his wife in the district's Haripur upazila.

Dabir Uddin, 60, was arrested from his house of the upazila's Dangiparha village on Wednesday night.

Ruhul Quddus, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haripur Police Station, confirmed about the arrest.



Police said Dabir Uddin mercilessly beat his mother Taslima Khatun, 98, with a stick, leaving wounded beside her left eye. She is currently undergoing treatment Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hosapital.

Locals said Tasliam sought rice from her son Dabir's wife. Being informed, Dabir beat his mother with a stick indiscriminately.

Being informed, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Awal rushed to the spot and took the woman to the hospital for treatment on Wednesday.


It has been learnt that Taslima's husband Safir Uddin died at least 30 years ago. He distributed all his properties among the children before death. Since his death, children had been showing disinterest to look after their mother.
