Max Hospital fined Tk 10 lakh

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) fined the much-talked Max Hospital in Chattogram Tk 10 lakh for different anomalies including providing lab reports without identifying disease and running pharmacy without licensee.

RAB Executive Magistrate Sarowar Alam on Sunday fined the hospital authorities after conducting a drive there since morning to afternoon.

Earlier, others private hospitals in the port city were shut down by the owners after hearing news of drive at Max Hospital.

RAB magistrate Sarowar Alam said, “We found different irregularities at the hospital during the drive. The hospital pharmacy has no licensee for two years. Different tests were conducted outside labs but provided as their own. We also found fake signatures of physicians on test reports. Besides, evidences were found to conduct lab tests abroad sending sample without government approval.”

“The hospital authority was fined Tk 10 lakh for the anomalies and warned for future,” he added.

Meanwhile the owners of private clinics and diagnostic centres in Chattogram city announced an indefinite closure of their organisations following the drive of RAB.

It may be mentioned that on June 29, two and a half-year-old Raifa Khan, daughter of Rubel Khan, staff reporter of vernacular daily the Daily Samakal, died due to wrong treatment at Max Hospital.

Later, the probe body formed by the government to investigate the death of Raifa Khan found evidence of negligence in her treatment.
