'Militants rented the house this month'

Narsingdi Correspondent: Law enforcers declared the operation end at the house cordoned off on suspicion of militant den at Bhogirathpur of Shekherchar in Narsingdi.

But, the law enforcement agencies have yet not started drive at the house of Gangparh in Madhabdi.

According to locals, the militants rented the house of Bhogirathpur in the current month.

Law enforcers said that they recovered bodies of two people including a woman conducting a drive inside the house of Bhogirathpur.

About the Gangparh house, law enforcers said that they had primarily urged the militants to surrender. Law enforcement agencies would go on action if they do not pay their heeds to the urge.

The Bhogirathpur house is 300 mitre off Dhaka-Sylhet highway. From there, the Gangparh house of Chhoto Godairchar in Madhabdi is 2 kilometere away. The seven-storey building is named as Nilufa Villa. One Afzal Hossain is owner of the house.

The five-storey Bhogirathpur house-owner Billal Hossain, a clothes trader, told police that militants rented a flat of his house in the early week of the current month.

Saiful Islam, a tenant of 5th floor of the house, said, “The duo (militants) resided in the neighbouring flat of mine. I do not know their identities. But they might be aged between 25 to 30 years.”

“One day, I suddenly saw them after they had started living here. Probably, they rented the flat on 5 to 7 this month. Billal, the house-owner, asked them several times to give copies of National Identity Cards. But they were making dillydally,” he added.

He said, “There was nothing in their flat, except two plates and one or two clothe bags. They usually did not go out of the flat. They generally avoided If someone wanted to talk to them which made me doubtful. Once I thought I should call on 999. In the meantime, Police cordoned off the house on Monday evening.”

Apu Debnath, a tenant of 2nd floor of the house, said that police took position in front of the house around 8:00pm. We could not understand what to do. An entire silence engulfed the entire area within a while and people got panicked. After some times, law enforcers announced to stay people in their respective houses. Around 3:00am, we were told to leave the house.
