Minor Shihab-Liton awarded by railway authority

Pabna Correspondent: The railway authority awarded the two minor boys who saved a freight train from a possible accident on Monday.

The minors are Shihabur Rahman Shihab and Liton Ali, both from Jhina village in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila.

Pakshi Western Regional Railway Authority arranged the reception programme at its office premises on Wednesday.

Railway officials took the the two boys along with several of their relatives to Pakshi. They were firstly received with floral wreaths. Later, they shared their experiences of escaping the possible train accident at a discussion programme.

Ashim Kumar Talukdar, divisional railway manager, presided over the programme. After the discussion, the two boys were given crests and cash money.

Around 9:00am on Monday, as the boys were playing in their village neighbourhood, they heard a strange noise as the Dhaka-bound Silkcity Express went past Jhina Railgate.

Out of curiosity, they went to the track after the train was gone, and saw one side of the lines was snapped.

Within minutes, they saw another Rajshahi-bound train approaching and realised that this one might not be as lucky as the last one.

Standing on the tracks, they started waving their warm clothes on air, signalling the locomotive driver to stop.

The freight of 32 fuel oil tankers from Khulna slowed down and stopped and finally escaped a possible accident.
