'More than 7,000 Rohingya orphans to be repatriated'

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said the government joining Unicef and other international organisations will take initiatives to repatriate the Rohingya children who fled Bangladesh without any guardian or as orphan.

The Minister said unit of his ministry is working to save children. More than 36,000 Rohingya children were identified as orphan. Of them, more than 7,000 lost parents. The government has different initiatives for their safety.

The minister told this to the reporters after visiting Balukhali Rohingya camp of Cox's Bazar on Thursday noon.

Social Welfare Minister said registration and creating database for Rohingya orphan children are running. They will be provided smart ID cards after ending the process. The ministry also signed a deal with Unicef in this regard.
