Murder accused killed in Barishal 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Barishal: An accused of Jalla union parishad (UP) chairman Bishwajit Gosh Nantu murder case was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Fultola area of Ujirpur upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Alam, 35, hailed from Madaripur district. 

Confirming the matter, Saiful Islam, superintendent of Barishal Police, said acting on a secret information, a team of police arrested Rabiul from Madaripur district on Monday night in a case filed for killing Jalla union chairman Bishwajit Gosh Nantu.

Later, following his information, police went to the spot to recover fire arms. Meanwhile, his cohorts opened fire aiming police which triggered the gunfight, leaving him dead on the spot.

The body was sent to Barishal-Sher-e-Bangla Medical College hospital for autopsy.
