Mymensingh ‘gunfight’ kills 1

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: A suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” with police at Harua in Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh district early Monday.

The deceased was known as Mostafa Hossain, 30, a resident of Khuliati village.

Two policemen named SI Mobarak Hossain and Constable Lal Mia received injuries during the gunfight.

Detective Branch (DB) of Police Officer-in-Charge Shah Kamal Akand said, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of detectives and Ishwarganj police conducted a drive in the area around 12:45am. Meanwhile, drug traders hurled brick chips and fired shots aiming the law enforcers which triggered the gunfight.

At one stage, police found bullet-hit Mostafa in the spot and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered 402 gram of heroin, 100 pieces of yaba tablets and bullet shells from the spot. The drug trader was wanted in four cases.
