Nasirnagar attack: Rasraj gets bail

Rasraj in police custody

Brahmanbaria Correspondent: A court in Brahmanbaria granted bail to Rasraj Das who was arrested following a Facebook post that “instigated” attacks on the Hindu community in the district’s Nasirnagar.

Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Md Ismail Hossain granted the bail to Rasraj after hearing in the case at around 11:00am on Monday.

Advocate Nasir Mia stood for Rasraj while lawyer SM Yousuf represented the State in the court.

Earlier on November 8, the court rejected a bail petition of Rasraj.

At that time, the court also rejected a petition seeking a fresh five-day remand for Rasraj in connection with the case filed over a Facebook post "instigating" the attack on October 30.

On October 30, around 200 religious bigots attacked at least five temples, and vandalised and looted about 100 Hindu houses in several localities in Nasirnagar. The attackers also beat up more than 100 people.

Police arrested Rasraj Das, son of Jagannath Das from Harinberh village under Haripur Union Parishad, immediately after the allegation of blasphemy had surfaced against him.
