Nine get life-term in murder case

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: A speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi has sentenced nine people to life-term rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over killing Natore Singra upazila Awami League (AL) leader Abu Khan (55).
Judge Anup Kumar Roy handed down the verdict on Wednesday noon.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each and acquitted 17 other people as charges brought against them could not be proved.
The convicts were known as Ariful Islam Arif, 24, Robiul Islam, 27, Sobuj Ahmed, 22, Ahsan Habib, 23, Almas Khan, 28, Ayub Ali, 32, Mokbul Hossain, 28, Rubel Hossain, 26 and Md Rabbani, 23.
All the accused were present in the court during announcement of the judgement. After the verdict, they were sent to jail.
According to the case statement, Abu Khan, son of late Shukai Khan of Soair-Balal village of the upazila, was hacked to death over dispute of Khas pond on March 29, 2014.
