No bar for BNP candidate to take part in Rangpur city polls

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has rejected a writ petition filed by Sonali Bank for cancellation of BNP candidate's nomination in Rangpur city polls.

The High Court bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque passed the order on Thursday.

After the verdict, there is no bar for the BNP backed mayor candidate Kawsar Zaman Babla to participate in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation elections, said a lawyer of him.

Barrister Badruddoza Badal moved for the BNP mayor candidate while Advocate Shamim Khaled stood for the petitioner.

Earlier on Tuesday, state-run Sonali Bank had appealed seeking cancellation of BNP candidate's nomination on charge of loan default.

On November 21, BNP nominated Kawsar Zaman Babla for the Rangpur city corporation election.
