One held for attempting to rape 5-yr-old girl

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: Police have arrested a person in a case filed for allegedly attempting to rape a five-year-old girl in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail district.

The arrestee is Akkas Ali, 45.

According to the victim’s family, their daughter went to the house of Akkas Ali with Akkas’s daughter Akhi Aktar to watch Television in Nolua madrasa area of the upazila on Sunday afternoon. Akkas attempted to rape their girl forcefully when his daughter was sent to a shop to buy something. Nearby people rushed to the spot when the girl started shouting.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a case with Sakhipur police station under Women and Children Repression Act

Police arrested Akkas Ali from Nolua bazar area of the upazila following the case.

Confirming the matter, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station Mohammad Maksudul Alam said Akkas has confessed to the attempted rape of the girl in primary investigation.

The victim has been admitted to 250-bed Tangail General Hospital for medical test, the OC added.
