One killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Kushtia Correspondent: An unidentified man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district early Friday.

The gunfight took place around 4.00pm in front of City College of Kushtia-Rajbari road.  

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia DB Police Sabbirul Islam said a gang of robbers were trying to commit robbery on Kushtia-Rajbari road.  Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police and Kushtia Model Thana took position there. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, robbers opened fire targeting them. Police men also backed fire that triggered a gunfight, leaving one robber injured.

He was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered two shutter guns, two pipe guns, several rounds of bullets and some local weapons.

Four police were also injured in the gunfight.
