One killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Kushtia

Kushtia Correspondent: A regional leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) Lal Pataka faction was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the district’s Kumarkhali upazila early Thursday.
The gunfight took place around 4.45am on the bank of Garai river. Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.
The deceased was identified as Kuddus alias Sagar, son of Tarok Ali of Urakandi in Rajbari Sadar upazila.
Rab-12 official Mohaiminul Haq, additional superintendent of police, said acting on information that a group of criminals were holding a meeting and a Rab team conducted a drive in the area.
The elite force members asked the criminals to surrender but the criminals opened fire on them prompting them to back fire that triggered the gunfight. At one stage, the criminals fled the scene, leaving Sagar’s body on the spot, he added.
Rab recovered one rifle and three bullets from the spot.
