'Operation Eagle Hunt' resumes at C'nawabganj militant den

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: The anti-militant drive codenamed 'Operation Eagle Hunt' resumed at the suspected militant hideout in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj this morning.

The special detective branch of police 'Special Weapon and Tactic Team (SWAT)' began the operation in the militant hideout around 9:00am.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station Habibul Islam confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

Mohammad Yousuf Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, said that two sounds of gunshots were heard from the militant hideout around 7:30am on Thursday.

CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Abdul Mannan said, "SWAT members resumed the operation. We suspect that four people including women and children are inside the one-storied house suspected to be militant den."

Earlier, the anti-militant drive at the suspected militant hideout was postponed two hours after the operation began on Wednesday evening.

Lawmen cordoned off the one-storied house in the area around 5:30am on Wednesday suspecting presence of militants inside. The militants fired several gunshots from the house towards the law enforcers.

A large number of police personnel were deployed around the house. Road traffic in the area remained closed and the surrounded residents were removed.

Restriction on gathering of people – Section 144 – was imposed on the area since around 11:30am, Shafiqul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibganj said.
