'Operation South Paw' ends, huge explosive found

Jhenidah Correspondent: The 'Operation South Paw' conducted at a militant den in Jhenidah has been declared end.

Earlier, law enforcers recovered a huge cache of explosive, arms and Jihadi books from inside the hideout.

Didar Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Khulna Range, officially announced the conclusion of the operation at a press conference on Saturday afternoon, after nearly five and a half hour-long operation.

Didar Ahmed said the hideout was used as a bomb making factory by Neo JMB members. Militants from different parts of the country visited the house. Though their identities were known, these will not be disclosed for the sake of investigation.

He said nine suicidal belts, three suicidal vests and four bombs weighing 8 to 10 kgs were disposed there. Law enforcers also seized huge electric circuits and explosive, 100 ball-bearing, a rice-cooker bomb, 16 Jihadi books, 20 containers filled with Hydrogen peroxide, a motorbike, a machete, a foreign made pistol, seven rounds of bullets and a huge cache of bomb making materials.

All the seized materials will be examined later, he added.

Meanwhile the owner of the house Abdullah who converted into Muslim from Hinduism fled away with his family members on Friday evening, before a while the operation was begun, police said.
