Operation begins to recover more arms, ammo

Staff Correspondent: A diver team of Fire Service has started operation to recover more arms and ammunition from a canal of sector-5 of Purbachal under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj.

However, a bomb disposal unit started to dispose the bombs recovered from the canal.

Earlier, police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area early Friday.

Sources said that the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area on Thursday midnight and recovered two rocket launchers, 63 M-16 rifles and huge ammunition and explosives.

Police also detained three people during the drive.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) visited the spot hearing the operation.

Narayanganj Additional police super Faruk Hossain told risingbd.com that police detained a youth named Sharif on May 29 with a Light Machine Gun (LMG). Later, following his information, police also detained two others and found the arms and ammunition following their information.
