Parliamentary committee visits Rajshahi Silk Factory

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Textiles and Jute have visited the current activities of Rajshahi Silk Factory.

A team of the parliamentary committee led by its chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury visited the factory on Friday noon.

Team members inspected different levels of the five power looms which were launched on test in the factory.

The parliamentary committee members expressed their satisfaction about the current activities including production of pure silk fabric with the yarn made in Bangladesh Silk Development Board.

Committee chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury said there is potential of silk industry. But it needs proper coordination, plans and supervision. Though Silk Research and Training Institute are in combined venture, quick approval of organisational structure of the industry needs for its coordination.

He asked the officials concerned to work with a target of raising silk production to 100 tons by 2021.

Senior Vice-President of Board of directors of the silk board Fazle Hossain Badsha, parliamentary standing committee members Dr Enamur Rahman, Sabina Akter Tuhin, Textiles and Jute Ministry’s secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, director general of the Department of Textile Mohammad Ismail among others were present during the inspection.
