Pirate killed in Kutubdia ‘gunfight’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A listed pirate was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kutubdia Dwip early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Didarul Islam alias Moulvi Didar, 32, son of late Yusuf Nabi, resident of Uttar Amjakhali under Baroghop union.

Rab-7 Company Commander Major Mahedi Hasan, being informed that a gang of pirates was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of RAB conducted drive in the area.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Later, RAB members rescued a youth with bullet injury and he was immediately taken to Kutubdia Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

The elite force also recovered seven guns, 20 rounds of bullets and nine bullet cases.
