Prisoners celebrate Eid in Gazipur

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Authorities of five prisons in Gazipur arranged Eid congregation for prisoners who are suffering different terms in prison as the Muslims celebrate holy Eid-ul-Fitr today after a month-long fasting.

The Eid congregation was held inside the prison at 8:30am.

Like every year, the prison authorities distributed special foods among the prisoners and arranged recreation for them on this holy occasion.

All prisons in Gazipur were illuminated and home-made foods were also allowed today for them. Prisoners’ family members and relatives were allowed to meet with them in the prison. Clothes were also distributed among them.

Jailer of Gazipur District Jail Forkan Wahid said, “All prisons here in Gazipur were illuminated on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr. Payes and Muri were served among them as the breakfast menu and hotchpotch, fish and egg for lunch while polao, beef, salad, sweetmeats, cold drinks, betel-nut and drinking water were set for the dinner.”

Cultural programmes and sports have also been arranged for the prisoners, he added.
