Private car kills 2 women in Comilla

Staff Correspondent, Comilla: At least two women were killed and two others including a child were critically injured as a private car ran over them at the district's Chandina area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Parul Begum, 45, wife of Idris Mia of Modhyamtola village of Chandina, and Nurjahan Begum, 55, wife of Rabiullah of Bagur area under Devidwar upazila.

The injured are Rafi, 5, son of the deceased Parul Begum, and one of the passengers of the private car Salauddin, 58, son of Ashraf Uddin of Dhaka's Bangshal.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in critical states.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Monirul Islam, In-charge of Iliyotganj Police Outpost, said the Comilla-bound private car from Dhaka overturned and fell into a roadside ditch after its driver had lost the control over the steering and run over the passersby, leaving the two women killed on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and seized the car. However, the driver managed to flee the scene after the accident, he added.
