Purbo Banglar Communist Party man killed in 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A leader of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) has been killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Tangail.

The deceased was identified as Sharif alias Farhad, 33, district president of Purba Banglar Communist Party.

Major Rabiul Islam, deputy director of Tangail RAB-12, crime prevention company (CPC-3) said, a team of RAB was patrolling in Dainna Chowdhury Maddho para area sadar upazila around 2:30am. Meanwhile, extremists opened fire aiming the RAB personnel. In reply, RAB also opened fire.

Later, the law enforcers found a bullet-hit youth in the spot and sent him to Tangail General College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

A foreign made pistol, magazine and four rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot.

Sharif was wanted in various cases including fire arms and murder cases.
