Railway staff crushed under train

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi:  An employee of Bangladesh Railway was crushed under the wheels of a speedy commuter train in rail-gate area near city’s railway station on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Altaf Hossain, 52, son of late Mir Sekandar Ali of Ghoramara area. He had been working as an accounts auditor of Rajshahi Railway (West).

Sayeed Iqbal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajshahi Railway Police Station, said the train coming from Chapainawabganj hit Altaf while he was trying to cross the level crossing at the Railway West Region Headquarter around 11am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Later, members of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC said.

The OC added that an unnatural death case will be filed in this connection.
