‘Rampal to turn southern parts into poisonous gas chamber’

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the under-construction Rampal power plant near the Sundarbans will turn the southern parts of the country into a poisonous gas chamber.

The BNP leader came up with the comment while addressing a representative conference of city and district BNP at Khulna Press Club auditorium at 11:00am on Saturday.

Rizvi said, “Biodiversity of the Sundarbans will be destroyed. Wildlife will lose their reproductive power. Different species of fish at the nearby rivers will be vanished.”

We do not want power plant by killing Sundarbans. It will not be possible to protect the oxygen factory of the Sundarbans if the coal-fired plant is installed near the ecologically sensitive mangrove forest, he added.

The government remains adamant to construct the coal-fired plant near the Sundarbans only to gratify India despite huge protests, the BNP leader alleged.
