TK20 lakh looted from Janata Bank's Laxmipur branch

Laxmipur Correspondent: Robbers allegedly looted Tk 20,47,919 from a branch of Janata Bank located at Ramganj in Laxmipur early Saturday.

Sources said an organised group of robbers broke the lock of the collapsible gate of the bank and beat up Mobarok Hossain, 65, a night guard of the bank. The guard fell unconscious as the robbers forced him to have some drugs.

Later, the robbers took away the money kept at the vault.

Meanwhile, the robbers took the CCTV camera of the bank with them after breaking it.

The night guard was later admitted to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Noakhali General Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Emran Hossain Patwary, manager of the branch, confirmed the incident of robbery.

Being informed, Lakshmipur Police Super ASM Mahtab Uddin visited the spot at noon.

The police official said an investigation is underway. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.

According to the bank sources, the bank officials kept Tk 20,47,919 at the vault of the branch and left the bank after completing the banking activities on Thursday.
