Rohingya suspect beaten to death in Khulna

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: An unknown sexagenarian man was beaten to death on suspicion being Rohingya national at Magur Ghonar Kathalia Bazar under Dumuria upazila in Khulna on Friday night.

Police held two persons for their alleged involvement in the incident. They are known as Mehedi Morol, shrimp enclosure owner of Sahos Goshgati village, and Modhusudon Mondal, grocer of Kathalia Bazar.

According to locals, “An unknown elderly man was beaten to death by locals on Friday night, leaving him seriously injured. He succumbed to injuries on way to Kapilmuni hospital in Paikgachha. Later, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ranajit, also In-Charge of Maghurkhali police camp, held two persons while they were taking the body to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex around 4:00am early Saturday.

Bimal Krisna Sana, Chairman of Magurkhali Union Parishad, said identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Aminul Islam Biplob, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station, said it has yet to revealed that the deceased was from Rohingyas. Two were held over beating him to death. A case was filed with Dumuria Police Station mentioning names of the two and several unknown people in this connection.
