Rohingyas refuse returning home unless demands met

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Rohingya people who fled to Bangladesh from Maynmar refused returning their home country unless six demands are met.

Rohingyas started demonstration in Cox's Bazar camps after Bangladesh and Myanmar authorities signed a deal for repatriation of them on January 15.

They posed six point-demand with the conditions of joint working committee of the both countries.

The conditions are: Deploying UN force in Myanmar before the repatriation, Rohingya must have to be recognized as Myanmar's citizens, all mosques and madrasa have to opened and ensuring madrasa education for Rohingya girls and boys, ensuring their movement like all other people of different religions, compensation to ensured for their losing lands and casualties, ensuring their movement in the country like Burmese people.

They must have to face torture of Myanmar government again unless the demands are met, Rohingya people claimed.

Nurul Amin, one of the Rohingyas who live in Damdamia camp in Teknaf, said UN special ambassador talked to me. He asked me if we had any problem here. I replied "no" as we are getting food and all privileges here.

Later, he asked if I want to return Myanmar. In reply I told him that if the Myanmar government will meet our demands and if Bangladesh government wants us to repatriate, then we will go.
