'Saiful leaves home for job a week ago'

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Saiful Islam, who was killed in operation "August Bite" conducting at a hotel of the capital's Panthapath, left home a week ago in search of job.

His father Abul Khair Mollah told this to police on Tuesday noon.

Habil Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station, confirmed the news.

Abul Khair was interrogated after he was taken to the police station, he added.

Saiful told his parents that he was going to Dhaka in search of a job, he said.

Saiful was a final year student of Political Science in Khulna BL College. They are residents of Noakathi village of Dumuria upazila. His father Abul Khair is an Imam of Noakathi Matherhat mosque and he is involved in Jamaat politics, according to Dumuria OC.

Law enforcers surrounded a building as a suspecting militant hideout where Hotel Olio International is situated since early Tuesday.

Yeasin Arafat, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalabagan Police Station, said militants are holing up at the fourth floor of the hotel. There might be huge explosives inside hideout.

Residential borders are being rescued first, he added.

Meanwhile, a SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team is trying to enter the building since 8:00am. Later, two sounds of gunfire were heard from the hotel around 9:45am. After a while, a sound of heavy explosion was heard. Since, frequent sounds were heard for five minutes. It might be sounds of gunfight between the law enforcers and the militants.
