Sarishabari mayor abducted from Dhaka found in Sreemangal

Maulvibazar Correspondent: Jamalpur’s Sarishabari municipality mayor Mohammad Rokonuzzaman Rukon has been found in Sreemangal upazila of Maulvibazar district 52 hours after he went missing from Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday.

Moulvibazar police superintendent Md Shahjalal confirmed this to risingbd on Wednesday afternoon.

The mayor's hands and legs were tied when he was rescued, the police official said.

Later, he was taken to Srimangal police station around 1:00pm on Wednesday.

“The mayor is in good health. We are interrogating him,” said the police super adding that he will be handed over to Uttara police Station in Dhaka as the victim’s family filed a general diary (GD) with the police station.

People came on a microbus and dropped the mayor off at a tea garden around 3:30am, according to local people.

Rukunuzzaman was missing after he had left his house in Uttara sector 13, Dhaka, around 9:30am on Monday. His mobile phone was switched off since then.
