Section 144 imposed in Kushtia's Kumarkhali

Kushtia Correspondent: The local administration slapped section 144 at Kumarkhali upazila as two political organisations -- Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) --called their meetings at the same venue and time on Saturday.

Md Sahinuzzaman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kumarkhali, imposed the restriction from 11:00am to 10:00pm to avoid any untoward situation.

Local Jasad leaders called a demonstration at Gorai Complex Auditorium protesting a clash between the activists of the two parties that left a UP member and Jasad supporter --Abdur Rahim Sheikh -- critically injured, he said.

Meanwhile, BCL activists also announced to hold a meeting marking the success of the ruling party at the same place and time, he added.

Apprehending a trouble, the local administration has imposed the emergency section to maintain law and order, the UNO said.

Additional police have also been deployed at different points of the town, he added.
