Separate road crashes kill 4 in Rajshahi

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Four motorbike riders have been killed in three separate road crashes in Rajshahi.

The incidents took place at Puthia, Godagarhi and Charghat area of the district on Friday noon.

Of the deceased, two were identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, son of Younus Ali of Upokantho Chodyapai area of Rajshahi city, and Jewel Rana, 27, son of Azam Ali of Faridpur village of Godagarhi upazila. They both were killed in Godagarhi road crash.

Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Puthia Police Station, said Nazrul was an employee of Rajshahi University. He along with one Mizanur Rahman Babu was heading to Rajshahi from Puthia by a motorcycle. At Baneshwar area on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway, a truck hit their motorbike from behind, leaving Nazrul killed at the spot.

Locals rushed Mizanur, who sustained injuries, to local hospital, he added.

According to Godagarhi OC Hipzur Munshi, A sugar-laden truck hit Jewel's motorbike while he was returning home by after saying Juma prayer at Kamarparha area. The motorcycle fell into a roadside ditch which left Jewel dead on the spot.

The body was later handed over to his family, he added.

Legal actions in this regard will be taken, the OC said.

Nibaran Chandra Barman, OC of Charghat Police Station, said two people were heading to Baneshwar while a sand-laden truck hit them at Chongatola area on Baneshwar-Charghat road, leaving them dead on the spot.

Though they had helmets on their heads, they sustained serious injuries at heads and died, he added.

The OC said, the duo could not be identified immediately.  However, a local source said they were from Kanaikhali of Natore. The bodies were kept at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital's morgue.

Legal actions will be taken in this connection, he said.
