Munshiganj Correspondent: Ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the Padma River have remained suspended due to poor visibility caused by dense fog early Monday.
Sources said that the ferry service in the round stopped around 2:00am. Six ferries were forced to anchor mid river. This disruption has resulted in a long line of vehicles stranded on both sides of the rivers, encompassing a few miles.
Shimulia Ghat trade manager Alimuzzaman said similar problem is seen from last 20-22 days. The ferry services remain normal at day light but the services are halted at night regularly due to dense fog.
People have been suffering badly as ferry services were disrupted for three consecutive days resulting in huge traffic jams on both routes.
Shah Newaj Khaled, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) told risingbd.com that the ferry service was halted temporarily to avoid accident.
