Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A tourist ship carrying more than 300 passengers has remained floating on the Naf river as its engine went out of order on Monday evening.

The engine of the tourist ship, LCT Kajal, which was going from Saint Martin’s island to Teknaf, went out of service around 6:00pm.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Zahid Hossain Siddiqui confirmed the matter.

“The ship authorities have failed to restart the vessel. The route of the ship touches the maritime boundary of Myanmar. That is why, a team of coast guard personnel have been sent there so that no tourist becomes panicked,” the UNO said.

He said another ship, LCT Kutubdia, has been sent under the leadership of Teknaf assistant commissioner (land) Pranay Chakma to the spot to rescue the tourists.

The UNO said they would take legal actions against the ship authorities once the tourists are rescued.
