Shrine Khadem hacked dead in Noakhali

Noakhali Correspondent: Miscreants hacked a khadem of a mazar (shrine) to death in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali on Wenesday night.

Deceased Sona Mia, 55, hailing from Shariatpur Sadar upazila, used to live along with his wife at Afzal Patwari Mazar at Char Hatgati village under Nadona union for the last seven years.

Ismail Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station, said one Elias, 30, along with an unidentified youth visited the shrine around 8:30pm and reportedly took the victim outside the shrine premises in pretext of lighting candles.

“At one stage, they stabbed Sona Mia indiscriminately and severed his head from the body,” he added.

Locals, however, captured Elias from the spot and handed him over to the law enforcers, he said.
