Supervisor remanded over rape in Tangail bus

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A Tangail court has placed supervisor of a bus, in which a mentally challenged woman was raped on Thursday night, on a four-day remand.

Senior Judicial Magistrate passed the order on Tuesday noon.

The convict was known as Ershad who was arrested in the case from his own house of Benkurshia area of the district’s Kalihati upazial on Sunday night.

Earlier on Monday, police filed a petition seeking a five-day remand for Ershad.

Arrestee Nazmul, helper of the bus, gave confessional statement to the court under the section 164 on Friday. He said in his confessional statement that driver Alam Khandokar and supervisor Ershad raped the mentally challenged woman in the bus.

A patrol team of police rescued the girl from the bus at the Eastern part of Bangabandhu Bridge 0n Thursday mid-night. The mentally challenged woman alleged to police that he had been committed to rape in the bus. Police, then, arrested helper Nazmul.

However, driver Alam and his associate Ershand managed to flee. Later, police filed a case in this connection.
