Suspected robber killed in Meherpur 'gunfight'

Meherpur Correspondent: A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Chokhtolarmath area of the district's Gangni upazila early Thursday.
The 'gunfight' took place with a patrol team of Gangni Police Station.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, confirmed the news.
He said a gang of robbers took preparation for robbery at Chokhtolarmath area after falling tree on Meherpur-Kushtia road. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, they started to fire at police. Cops also retaliated to them for self-defence.
Later, police found the bullet-hit unknown man at the spot. He was rushed to Gangni upazila health complex where attending doctors declared him dead, he added.
An LG shutter gun, a round of bullet, two bombs and some lethal weapons were recovered from the spot, the OC said.
Sub-Inspector Bakhtiar Khaled and constable Abdul Haque of the patrol team were also injured in the incident.
