Tailback on Dhaka-Tangail Highway: Magistrate’s car vandalised

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Highway, the second-busiest highway of the country, has emerged with real image on the last day of Eid journey.

Though Eid journey started since Friday last, no long tailback had been seen on the highway. But traffic jam began to be created on the highway since Monday, the very last working day before Eid. It became terrible since Tuesday morning and turned into a 30 kilometer long.

Meanwhile, agitated holidaymakers waged demonstration and setting fire on tires at Bikramhati at Tangail sadar upazila on the highway in protest of the tailback.

They also vandalised and set fire on car of Roknuzzaman, Tangail executive magistrate, when he rushed there to visit people with the district deputy commissioner (DC) Shahidul Islam and tried to talk to them. Car of DC shahidul Islam was vandalised as well.

Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (east) Police Station), said the tailback created due to heavy rush on the highway. However, vehicles started crossing the bridge slowly from noon.
