Those killed in Ctg ‘gunfight’ were drug peddlers

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: The two persons, who were killed on Thursday night in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Barishal Colony of Matherbari under Sadarghat Thana in the caity, were terrorists and drug peddlers, RAB claimed.

RAB on Friday noon disclosed the deceased’s identities as Habibur Rahman Prakash alias Mota Habib, 42, son of late Samsul Alam of Anjurhat village of under Patiya upazila, and Mosharraf, 22, son of Hossain Mia of Cumilla’s Burichang upazila.

Mimtanur Rahman, Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, told risingbd that on information, RAB conducted drive at Barishal Colony. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, they fired at them. In retaliation, RAB also fired at them for self-defence, leaving the two wounded. They were whisked off Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where attending doctors declared them dead.

Law enforcers also seized 30, 400 pieces of Yaba tablets, 40 bottles of Phensedyl, 6 bottles of foreign wine, 5 can foreign bear, 500gm hemp, a 7.65mm foreign made pistol, 2 one-shooter guns, a magazine, 8 rounds of bullets, 4 rounds of shells and Tk 17, 300 cash from the spot, he added.
