Titu Roy on 4-day remand

Staff Correspondent: A Rangpur court granted four day remand to Titu Roy who was arrested in a case filed for allegedly posting a blasphemous photo on social media that triggered an arson attack on Hindu houses at Paglapir Thakurbari village in Sadar upazila of the district.

Rangpur Senior Judicial Magistrate court Judge Debangshu Kumar Sarkar passed the order on Wednesday noon after Sub-Inspector (SI) Babul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, produced Titu Roy before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for him.

One Razu Ahmed filed the case with Gangachara police station against Titu Roy for allegedly posting a blasphemous photo on social media under ICT Act.

Following the case, Titu was detained from a house of his relative at Jaldhaka in Nilphamar on Tuesday morning.

On Saturday morning, police filed two cases over the clash and detained so far 159 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas in this connection.

A man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured during the clash.
