Top robber killed in Teknaf gunfight

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A top robber also drug peddler was killed in a gunfight with police in the village Lengurbil area of Sadar union under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

The deceased was known as Farid Alam alias Dacoit Alam, 40, son of Abdul Khader alias Peran Khader, hailed from Lengurbil village.

Police said that he was also accused in six cases, including for two for trading contraband yaba pills two for fire arms cases. Farid Alam was cohort of Rohingya robber Abul Hakim.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf model police station officer-in-charge Pradip Kumar Das said acting on information, police arrested him on Saturday morning. Later, following his information, the law enforcers conducted a raid in the village. But, sensing presence of the law enforcement, cohorts of Bhulu’s gang opened fire to police, forcing them to shoot back in self defence.

Meanwhile, police fired 25 rounds of bullet during the gunfight. At one stage, the attackers fled the scene, leaving Farid Alam bullet injured.

Later, he was taken to upazila health complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

A gun, five rounds of bullet and 10,000 yaba pills were recovered from the scene, OC odded.
