Trial against 4 ex-RAB men in Talsara Darbar loot begins

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: A court in Chittagong on Tuesday has framed charge sheet against dismissed Lt Col Zulfiqar Ali Majumder, commanding officer of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 and six others in a case filed for their alleged involvement in looting Tk 2.07 crore from Talsara Darbar Sharif at Anwara upazila in Chittagong.

The charge sheet was framed against former four RAB officials including sacked RAB official Zulfiqar Ali Majumder and its three informants for their alleged involvement in the robbing.

The trial in the sensational case has apparently resumed through the framing of the charge sheet against the accused.

Chittagong 5th Additional District and Session Judge Md Noor-E-Alam framed the charge sheet and set a date for taking testimony in the case.

Mohammad Idris of Talsara Darbar Sharif filed the case with the local police station against 10 members of RAB-7, two of their informants and some 15 unnamed persons on March 13, 2012 on charge of looting the money.

On November 4, 2011, Zulfiqar along with 20 to 30 people, including some RAB men in plainclothes and their informants, allegedly looted Talsara Darbar Sharif at Anwara upazila in Chittagong.

In the case statement, the complainant alleged that the RAB officials with the help of their cohorts entered the shrine and looted Tk 2.07 crore after breaking open steel cupboard of the Darbar Sharif in the name of search operation. The money was given by the followers of the Darbar Sharif and kept inside the cupboard, he added.
