Tribunal reads Mojaheed verdict

DHAKA, July 17: Judges at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 have begun reading out the verdict on Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed on Wednesday morning.

ICT-2 chief Justice Obaidul Hassan first read out background to the verdict at 11:05am.

After that, Justice Shahinur Islam started reading out the 37-page executive summary of the 209-page judgement.

Justice Md Mujibur Rahman Mia is also present at the tribunal.

Mojaheed was presented in the dock at 10:40am.

Earlier, a contingent of securitymen guarded the Jamaat top leader as he was taken to the prison cell of the ICT-2 from Dhaka Central Jail at about 9:45am in a white microbus.

Mojaheed faces the trial on seven counts of crimes against humanity, including genocide, murder, torture, conspiracy, planning incitement and complicity in atrocities during the 1971 Liberation War.
