Truck kills garment worker, highway blocked

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A female garment worker was killed as a truck ran over her at Teknogparha area under Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shahina Akter Tuli, 23, wife of Shah Md Abu Saleh Roni, hailed from Dakshin Sonakhali village of Pirojpur's Mothbaria upazila.

She used to work at readymade garment factory Nogparha area.

After the accident, workers of the factory blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for 20 minutes in protest of the incident.

Abdul High, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naojore Highway Police Outpost, said a Mymenshingh-bound speedy truck ran over Shahina near her working place when she was heading to it, leaving her dead on the spot.

Hearing the incident, her co-workers blocked the highway and staged demonstration, stopped vehicle movement, he added.

Being informed, highway police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control to clear the road for traffic movement after 20 minutes, he said.
