Truck-microbus collision kills 5 of a family among 6

Laxmipur Correspondent: Six people including five of a family were killed and seven others were injured in a head-on collision between a cattle-laden truck and a microbus in front of Sultana Fueling Station on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Muhuriganj in Feni early Monday.

The deceased were known as Qatar expatriate Sabuj’s two sons Nahidul Islam Shuvo, 7, and Maidul Islam Noman, 2, his mother-in-law Jahanara Begum, 55, brother-in-law’s daughter Popy Akter, 15, sister Runa Akter, 35 and microbus driver Abbas Mia, son of Chowdhury Mia of Ramkrishnapur village of Chandraganj.

The identities of the deceased were confirmed by Shahabuddin, brother of deceased Jahanara Begum.

The bodies were kept at Feni Modern Sadar Hospital morgue.

According to the family sources, family members hired a microbus to receive Qatar expatriate Sabuj of Motobi village of Laxmipur sadar upazia from Chattogram Shah Amanat Airport. A total of 13 members of the family started their journey for Chattogram around 12:00am from the village. The cattle-laden truck hit the opposite head microbus while it reached Sultana Fueling Station at Muhuriganj around 2:40am, leaving six dead on the spot.

The injured were admitted to hospitals in Laxmipur and Feni.

Mahbub Alam, In-Charge of Muhuringanj Highway Police Station, confirmed the news.

A shadow of shock engulfed the whole area at the demise of five members of a family.
