Two die in Bahubal clashes

Habiganj Correspondent: At least two people have been killed in clashes over the formation of a local mosque committee and appointment of an Imam in the district’s Bahubal upazila.

The clashes took place at Mugkandi village of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as UK expatriate Kabir Miah Akhonji (55), son of Sabu Miah of the village, and Matin Miah (50). 

Senior ASP of Bahubal-Nabiganj Circle Raselur Rahman said that there was a dispute between the two groups regarding the formation of new committee of Mugkandi Jame Mosque and the change of Imam. One group wants to change the current Iman Farid Akhonji. The other group stood for the Imam. On Friday, a Sohel Miah locked into an altercation with a Shafik Master. At one stage people of both sides involved in a clash, leaving 50 injured.

On Saturday morning the both groups again locked into a clash, leaving two dead and 50 injured. On information police reached there and took the situation under control, he also said.

The injured have been admitted to Bahubal hospital, Habiganj Sadar Hospital and Sylhet Osmani General Hospital.
