Two drug peddlers killed in Teknaf gunfight

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Two persons were killed and three policemen injured in a gunfight with police in Sabrang of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Rashid alias Dailla, 47, son of late Emam Sharif and Abul Kalam, 34, son of Abdur Rahman of the upazila.

The injured policemen are- Sub-Inspector (SI) Borhan Uddin, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Farhad and Constable Ridoy.

Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station said the gunfight took place around 1:00am.

Police arrested enlisted drug trader Abdul Rashid and wanted criminal Abul Kalam on Wednesday afternoon. Following their information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area. Meanwhile, sensing presence of the law enforcement, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back in 'self-defence'.

Later, police recovered the bullet-hit bodies of the two persons. Some 22,000 pieces of Yaba pills, five guns and 22 rounds of bullets were also recovered from the spot.
