Two killed in Cox's Bazar gunfight

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a gunfight in Himchhari area under Ramu upazila of the district early Thursday.

Of the deceased one was identified as Enamul Haque, 26.

Deputy Commander of Cox's Bazar BGB 34-Battalion Major Iqbal Ahmed said a team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) setup a check-post in the area. Later, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel also setup another check-post around 4:30am.

Meanwhile, Cox's Bazar-bound a private car tried to turn-back in the joint check-post. At one stage, BGB and RAB personnel tried to stop them but, drug traders opened fire aiming the law enforcers. In reply, BGB and RAB personnel also opened fire, leaving the two dead on the spot.

A foreign made pistol, a local gun, some bullets, Yaba pills and a private car were seized from the spot.

The bodies were kept at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Major Iqbal.
