Two killed in Sundarban 'gunfight'

Bagerhat Correspondent: Two pirates were killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Katlarkhal area of Boleshwar under Sharankhola range of Sundarbans on Wednesday morning.

They are known as members of Abbas Group.

The deceased were identified as Yousuf Fakir, second in command of Abbas Bahini, and member of the group Ruhul Amin.

The details about them could not be known immediately.

Hassan Emon Ali Razib, Captain and Wing Commander of RAB-8, confirmed the news.

He said, "On information that a group of pirates were taking preparation for robbery, RAB conducted drive there. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, they fired at them. RAB members also retaliated at them, leaving the two killed."

"Home and foreign made seven firearms and 124 bullets were seized from the spot," he added.
