Five militants among six killed in Rajshahi

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Five militants and a fire service man were killed in suicide explosion at a house of Benipur village of the district's Godagari upazila on Thursday morning.

Two cops were injured by grenade attack made by the militants.

Of the deceased, the Fire Service man was identified as Abdul Matin, 45.

The killed militants were ascertained of a family. They were Sazzad Hossain, 50, owner of the house, his wife Bely Begum, 40, their sons Al-Amin, 20, Swayed, 25, and daughter Karima Khatun, 17.

Meanwhile their edlest daughter Sumaiya Khatun, 27, surrendered to the law enforcers.

Hifzul Alam Munshi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Godagarhi Police Station, said police cordoned off the house of Benipur village on suspicion of being militant den early Thursday. Since then, law enforcers keep urging the militants to surrender.

As they did not respond, fire service men started to spray water into the house. At one stage, militants hurled grenade at the law enforcers and fire service men, leaving two cops and a fire service men injured, he added.

The injured were taken to hospital immediately where fire service man Abdul Matin was declared dead, he said.

The OC said after the grenade attack, police started to fire at the militants, at one stage, five militants blew themselves off by explosion.

"Two children were rescued from the house and law enforcers cordoned off the house," he added.
