Two players killed on way to attend football match

Narsingdi Correspondent: Two youths have been killed and 10 others injured as a trolley carrying them turned turtle on their way to attend a football match in Raipur upazila of the district.

The road mishap took place at Khakchak area on Raipur-Radhaganj road of the upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased were known as Mamun Bhuiyan, 18, son of late Sultan Bhuiyan of Tukipura village of the upazila, and Rabiul Mia, 20, son of Mofiz Uddin of the same area.

Of the injured, Sabuj, 15, Jony, 16, Babu Bhuiyan, 20 and Rasel Mia, 15, were known immediately. They all hailed from Tukipura.

According to police and witnesses, 20 to 25 youths were heading Raipura degree college by the trolley to attend a football match in the morning. But the trolley turned turtle at Khakchak area as its driver lost the control, leaving the two killed on the spot and 10 others seriously injured.

Of the injured, eight were admitted to different local clinics including Raipura Upazila Health Complex. But Sabuj among two were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Rafiul Karim, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Raipura Police Station, confirmed the news.

Bodies of the deceased were sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
