Two to die for killing van driver in Kushtia

Kushtia Correspondent: A court in Kushtia sentenced two people to death in a case filed over the killing of a van driver in Mirpur upazila of district in 2015.

Judge of Additional District and Session Judge’s Court Md. Towhidul Islam announced the verdict at 12:30pm on Monday.

The death row convicts are—Sontu Shekh, 21 and Mahabul Islam, 22.

The court also fined them TK10,000 each.

According to the case statement, Nishan (14) came out of his home with his van on July 25, 2015. But he did not return home at night. Later, his relatives looked for him at different places but failed.

After frantic search, police recovered the throat-slit body of Nishan in Bottola’s Kalabagan area of the upazila in the morning of the following day.

On that day, Enamul Mandal, father of Nishan, filed a case with Mirpur Police Station in this connection.

Police arrested Sontu Sheikh and then Mahabul Islam after the filing of the case.

After examining the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts.
